UberBLACK vehicles are high end black cars, chauffeur driven by professionals (UberBLACK drivers) that give users on-demand rides in luxury sedans or SUVs. All UberBLACK drivers are vetted and have to meet a number of  requirements in order to be eligible to drive for this service (UberBLACK).  The UberBLACK service is the luxury version of UberX. The UberBLACK car must also meet certain requirements that may be quite costly for potential UberBLACK drivers .

This post will provide information on other means (outside of personal finance) of obtaining UberBLACK  Vehicles by utilizing a UberBLACK car loan plan. The flexibility provided by these plans will expedite the process of starting up your Uber business as an UberBLACK driver.

To qualify to become an uberBLACK driver, you have to meet the following basic requirements:

  • You must be at least 21 years old
  • Driver’s License
  • Commercial Registration
  • Commercial Insurance
  • Vehicle Inspection (See the inspection here)
  • Airport Permit, in some cities
  • Photos of the vehicle: front, back, side, and interior
  • Undergo a criminal background check and driving history background check.

Once you receive a go-ahead from Uber, you can proceed to consider any of the Auto- finance options below for obtaining an UberBLACK approved vehicle.

Since this post is giving alternative options for purchasing UberBLACK cars, its only right we first discuss financing options provided by Uber.

Uber’s vision is focused on the seamless  flow of transportation globally. Providing vehicle finance options for hopeful UberBLACK drivers is one way of making this vision a reality. To begin the process of acquiring a vehicle, first you have to sign up to be a driver with Uber.

Then, you can take advantage of the exclusive discounts and financing options designed for Uber partners by Uber itself.

This program is called the Uber  Xchange Leasing. Every Uber partner and driver is eligible for special discounts on select new Toyota, GM, Ford, Nissan, Hyundai, Chrysler, and Volkswagen vehicles. You can save thousands of dollars on some of these popular models. Drivers pay a $250 deposit, followed by weekly payments for the three-year term of the lease. Basic maintenance is covered, and there’s no limit on mileage.

Car payments are automatically deducted from weekly earnings. This helps simplify the repayment process thereby creating no hassles for drivers. This service is open to drivers of all credit levels who will be linked to participating lenders. After the duration has passed, drivers can then own these cars.

We have provided other vehicle financing options below. We also included different criteria to help you make an informed decision:

1-800 Auto Yes

This option is ideal for drivers who have good credit, bad credit, no credit, bankruptcies and even subprime credit. It is a one step application process that lasts about 2 minutes. They also help you build up your credit score. Click the link above to begin.

Automotive.com

Not only can you shop for cars on the website, you can also apply for a suitable loan/ financing option to help you own the car of your choice. Not lender themselves, they however have  relationships with other business that do provide lending and financing services directly to consumers. Fill the form here to begin.

And that’s all there is to know about How to get a loan for an UberBLACK Car! You can also check our related posts on Top Car leasing programs for Uber drivers. Figure out which of the options highlighted above work best for you so you can start earning money.

Drive With Uber in Australia As An UberBLACK Driver

Uber has launched various services in Australia and is currently catering to different segments of the society. The UberBLACK service – also called the Original Uber is a classy way to get around. Passengers are picked up in luxurious rides driven by professionally trained drivers. Drivers, who want to use a less pricey car and don’t mind making a large number of daily trips usually opt for the UberX service. On the other hand with the UberBLACK service, drivers invest in fancy cars or sign up under UberBLACK partners. They enjoy lesser ride requests but charge higher fares. They sometimes make more money than UberX drivers.

If you wish to drive with Uber in Australia as an UberBLACK driver, we have provided a list of “Must-Dos” to get you started.

Step 1: Ready These Required Documents

The basic documents to drive with Uber in Australia include:

  • Make sure it is a clean headshot, with facial features visible.
  • Do not send a photo of your car to Uber
  • A Driver’s Accreditation (taxi license), if available
  • Business registration documents containing tax number (for cities outside the US)

Other Necessary Documentation includes:

Driving your own vehicle? :

  • A full Victorian drivers’ licence; and
  • A valid ‘Hire Car’ driver accreditation certificate; and
  • A Commercial insurance certificate; and
  • Ownership of a Metropolitan Hire Car licence (i.e. VHA/VHB Plates)

Driving another driver-partner’s vehicle? :

Step 3: Wait for Uber Background Checks

It takes Uber about two weeks to perform background and criminal checks on intending drivers. Specifically, they will take the documents provided in Step 1 and run a criminal history check. Uber also investigates your driving history to be sure you have a clean record and have never had your license revoked for any reason.

Step 4: Get an Approved UberBLACK Car

UberBLACK cars need to have an all-black exterior with a black leather interior. A typical Uber black car must have a minimum width of 1700mm and must be Uber approved. Please speak to an Uber official before you make a decision to purchase or lease a vehicle.

The types of qualifying sedans for Uber black include but are not limited to:

Car Type, Model and Age

Audi

  • A8, 2008
  • Q7, 2008

BMW

  • 5-Series, 2011

You can check the list here for an analysis on UberBLACK cars and what we recommend.

Step 5: Go for Your Interview

Once you have completed the preceding steps, you will be called in to the Uber office for an interview. Endeavor you have sufficient street and route knowledge regarding your area/city. You should be dressed professionally for this interview.

If you pass the interview, you will be invited for a training session at a specific date, after which your vehicle’s documents will be checked, and you will officially become an UberBLACK driver and/or Uber partner.

You will also receive an Uber-issued cell phone which will have the Uber application installed on it to allow you to get clients. However, if you wish to use your own smart phone, it is perfectly fine to return the cell phone.

Nice to Know

If you want to drive with Uber in Australia as an  UberBLACK driver, You should note that you will be utilizing a certain amount of money to pay for gas.

In addition to the afore-mentioned you have other costs like car maintenance, insurance costs, car depreciation, and uber royalties. If you are looking to do proper due diligence before acquiring a car and want to assess the profitability of Uber as a business whether as a one-man business (a sole Uber driver), or as an Entrepreneur with multiple Uber cars in his/her fleet, then download our Uber kit at the top right of the linked page below:

PS:  The investment a driver/partner will make to obtain commercial licensing as well as insurance is typically high, which is why I would suggest the UberBLACK service only for those that wish to become drivers full time and for a long period of time. If you just want to supplement your income, then you might just want to sign up for UberX (If you would like to become an UberX driver go here).

This sums up everything you need to know to get started as an UberBLACK driver in Australia. While the steps seem long, the process is not generally tedious.

Why UberBLACK Is Called The High-End Service

UberBLACK service is classified as the high-end Uber service. This may be confusing because most Uber services are classy as well and Uber drivers give great service no matter the type of service they provide. So, how really ‘high’ is the UberBLACK service? Let’s explore this concept.

  1.   UberBLACK Cars Are More Expensive

Unlike other Uber services, this service demands classy and expensive cars. The service also handpicks latest models with black exterior and black grey or beige leather interior.

  1.   Pricing

This service is considered to be one of the most expensive car service that Uber provides. Since you wish to get around in classy sedans, you must be ready to pay a higher price for the extra comfort. The best money for the best services – this equation is apt for this situation

  1.   It Isn’t a Common Service

UberBLACK isn’t the most patronised type of service. Since it is a high class service and as such, only used regularly by a number of people. People usually opt for the inexpensive UberX for regular rides. They consider the UberBLACK service as the best choice when they have special occasions or events that require display of class.

  1.   Drivers Are Professionally Trained

Most drivers who drive for this service have professional chauffeuring experience and also undergo training from Uber before they are allowed to drive. Anyone would expect that a driver who has undergone professional training would understand how to relate with passengers more than the regular driver.

  1.   Passengers Get First Class Treatment

Owing to the training discussed above, the drivers tend to give the passengers a more professional and classier treatment. This may include opening the door, the trunk, to mention a few. The service provides riders with absolute convenience and allows them feel the luxury that they paid very well for.

  1.   Livery Licenses

This license gives the service a strong point when weighed against other available Uber services. UberBLACK drivers never have to worry about airport pickups or drops since livery licenses give them the liberty to carry out such pickups.

  1.   Commercial Registration

While other Uber services have drivers who are just private individuals willing to share their cars to earn money, UberBLACK service requires that drivers register their business and submit registration documents before they can be allowed to join the service. The rules for this service are very strict and this ensures that the service is taken seriously to protect its riders.

  1.   Drivers Earn More

Since UberBLACK fares are higher than others, you can expect that the drivers would get to earn more than the drivers under other Uber services. UberBLACK drivers make more per ride so they end up working lesser than other Uber services but make the same amount of money or sometimes more. Take a look at this simple calculation – an UberX driver earns $10 per ride and an UberBLACK driver gets $20, an UberX driver would have to carry out 10 rides to get the $100 dollars that an UberBLACK driver would make on 5 rides. This allows UberBLACK drivers work less for same or more money than theUberX driver.

From our discussions above, it is obvious that UberBLACK service is indeed a high end service. Tell us your views and any experiences you have had with the UberBLACK service in the comment box.

How To Hire The Best Drivers For Your UberBLACK Fleet

Hiring the best hand to run a business is important to ensure that work is done effectively. This situation is directly applicable to hiring drivers for your UberBLACK fleet. The most successful Uber fleet owner is definitely not the one who provides the best vehicles but the one who gets the best drivers to drive the vehicles. Getting a good driver could be easy if you follow the few steps discussed below:

  1.   Place Your Ad

The first step is to put out your offer to the public. You can do this by placing adverts on a website. Click this link to find 10 free sites to place your ads. You can also get some fliers and stickers printed for distribution. When you have gathered enough job applications from interested UberBLACK drivers, move on to number step 2.

  1.   Contact Your Applicants with A Date for a Soft Interview

It is in your best interest to interview people to consider if they are good enough to place your vehicle in their hands. Do not leave this solely to Uber. However, this shouldn’t be a shirt and tie kind of interview – it’s just a soft examination to gauge their personality. An UberBLACK driver’s personality is what accounts for how good a driver’s service turns out. In a business space where customer service is very important, it is necessary to take your time and pay very close attention to their actions and reactions during this meeting/interview. After you have done this for all applicants, you should go on to short-list your favorites.

  1.   Conduct a Background Check

It is assumed that while they register, these applicants must have forwarded some documents to confirm their identity. You’d have to take these documents and run background checks on them.  There are rules in different places guiding how far you can dig about a person. Within the scope of the law, see what you can find on their criminal and driving record.

  1.   Re-invite Successful Candidates for Driving Test

After conducting your checks and short-listing your top candidates, you can then contact the successful drivers. Most likely, you should give them different dates. This second meeting is going to involve you getting them behind the wheel. Hand over the car keys and pay attention to what they do and how they do it. From here you can go on to select the people you find most suitable based on their driving skills.

  1.   Give Them a Briefing

UberBLACK service orientation should be given to drivers. They need to understand your vision and the way you intend to run your business. Then you also discuss payment information and how it accrues.

These steps would help ensure that the hands you have on deck are the best ones thereby securing your peace of mind. With the above applied steps, you are sure that whatever Uber would be doing is just a crosscheck.

If you are looking to do proper due diligence before acquiring a car and want to assess the profitability of Uber as a business whether as a one man business (a sole Uber driver), or as an Entrepreneur with multiple Uber cars in his/her fleet, then you might just need to check out either of our Uber Kits at the top right of the linked page:

New Lyft Premier and UberBLACK

Lyft is launching a luxury ride service called Lyft Premier to compete with Uber’s UberBLACK. This service would put Lyft in close ranks with Uber and help it compete favorably in the ridesharing space. The launch of Lyft Premier could be attributed to reports revealing that 60 percent of Lyft riders have requested for a more luxurious ride option.

How Does Lyft Premier Work?

The service was designed to operate like the UberBLACK service. It will allow Premier riders commute in high-end vehicles like BMW 5 Series, Audi A6, or an Escalade. Also, drivers who will get offers to drive both regular and luxury riders as they wish in a bid to maximize earnings. Verge post states that: “For drivers, that can be seen as a benefit — if there is no demand for Premier cars (with the higher payout that it delivers), they can still pick up Line Classic riders and make money. This is better than sitting around waiting for a Premier rider and not getting paid, and gives Lyft greater flexibility to handle demand. On the other hand, the fact that more price-conscious Lyft riders can still get cars from the Premier fleet might decrease the luxury-factor.”

On the contrary, it seems apparent that Lyft is looking out for drivers without whom the service will not function. If Lyft Premier drivers are not afforded various avenues to earn money, the service will quickly experience a dearth of drivers. At the end, drivers have to be considered regardless of how the service may be perceived in the long run. Existing Lyft drivers need at least a 4.7 rating out of 5 to qualify for Premier.

The service is now available in the Bay Area, Los Angeles, and New York City.

How to Opt in for Lyft Premier

Current Lyft Drivers:

  1. Log into your Driver Dashboard.
  2. If you have a qualifying vehicle, you will be asked to confirm your seat type.
  3. If your vehicle meets the requirements, you will be automatically opted in to receive premium requests.

New Lyft Drivers:

  1. Maintain a 4.7 rating
  2. If your vehicle meets the requirements, you will be automatically opted in to receive premium requests.

Lyft’s commission is 30% for Premier rides, but for a limited time, it’s lowered to 25%. Techcrunch reported that the service will cost 2x the fare of Lyft’s regular services

The rivalry between Uber and Lyft is far from over as evidenced by the introduction of Lyft’s Lyft Premier. Even as Uber still sits at the helm of ridesharing, Lyft is actively seeking ways to remain a proven threat to Uber’s every move.

Note -For Uber Drivers and Entrepreneurs who are looking to do proper due diligence before acquiring a car and want to assess the profitability of Uber as a business whether as a one man business (a sole Uber driver), or as an Entrepreneur with multiple Uber cars in his/her fleet, then you might just need to check out either of our Uber Kits at the top right of the linked page:

Uber services have been tailored to suit the lifestyles and needs of its varying passengers. UberSELECT vehicles are classy entry level luxury cars (but not as nice as UberBLACK vehicles). Drivers in this service have ratings of 4.75 and above. Uber Services – UberBLACK And UberEXEC

The differences between UberBLACK and UberEXEC are often ignored due to their similarities. UberBLACK is a luxurious service that provides convenient and premium service to people with deep pockets. Just like UberEXEC, this Uber service takes a passenger from one place to another in a really nice car – better than regular cabbies. One of the differences between the two Uber services is the type of vehicle used.

As an UberBLACK driver, you have to use sleek cars with black exteriors. The vehicle’s interior can be black, grey or beige with leather seats.  UberBlack drivers are entitled to higher fare rates compared to some of the other services. As an UberEXEC driver, expect to get fewer ride requests compared to say an UberX driver, due to the higher ride fares. However, you still make as much, or even more than a regular UberX driver with the fewer rides. UberBLACK drivers also get longer trips, because for a lot of cities, these drivers are allowed to make airport trips.

On the other hand, if you opt for the UberEXEC service, you get a luxury car with a classy looking leather interior at a reasonable price. Another difference between these two Uber services is that UberEXEC is a high-end service for those who do not want to spend the Uber Black fare, but want to get around in fancy cars as well. This type of service is mostly used by professionals and business executives to execute official duties. The service is currently available in Singapore and a few cities in the United Kingdom.

Documents

If you wish to become an UberBLACK driver you need to have the following documents ready:

  • Your Commercial Driver’s license
  • Your airport permits (livery licenses) – not required in some cities. If mandated, you will need one for each city you want to make drop offs.
  • Proof of insurance for your business
  • W-9 documents (in the US) other business registration documents containing tax number (for cities outside the US)
  • Commercial Vehicle insurance (if you already have an approved UberBLACK car)
  • Vehicle Registration documents  (if you already have an approved UberBLACK car)
  • City Sticker (for livery cars, if required in your city)

For an UberEXEC driver you need the documents listed above too except the livery permit and other documents related to it.

Once you have all of these documents, the next step is to sign up through the Uber website – using our link: uberkit.net/signup. (You get a signup bonus if you use our link, which has our signup referral code already pre-populated).

Vehicle Requirements

Like earlier discussed, one of the differences between the two Uber services is the type of vehicle used. UberBLACK cars need to have an all-black exterior with black, grey or beige leather interior. Whatever type of car you pick, it generally needs to be a model from the year 2012 or newer (4 years old or newer). The types of qualifying SUVs for Uber black include the Cadillac Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon XL, Infiniti QX56, Lexus LX, Lincoln Navigator L and Mercedes-Benz GL-class. The qualifying sedans for Uber black include the Audi A6 and A7, the BMW 5 series, Cadillac XTS, Infiniti Q70, Jaguar XF, Lexus GS and Mercedes-Benz E-class. You can check the list here for an analysis of UberBLACK cars and what we recommend.

An UberEXEC car simply needs to be a luxury vehicle but not necessarily as pricey as the UberBLACK cars. UberExec approved vehicles must also have black exteriors with leather interior and a minimum seating capacity of 4 people. Approved cars under this service  include but are not limited to these: Audi A7, Audi A8, Audi A6 (C7 shape & 5 seater only), BMW 5 series sport (5 seater only), BMW 5 Series (new shape), Jaguar XF Series, Jaguar XJ series(short wheel base), Jaguar X type, Mercedes S Class (Short wheel base), Mercedes E Class.

These are the major Differences Between the two Uber services( UberEXEC and UberBLACK). We hope you found this helpful.

Uber Vs Easy Taxi In Nigeria

Uber is one of the largest global businesses in the world. All over the world, several organizations are fighting to carve a space in the rideshare industry as Uber has carved for itself. One of Uber’s major competitors is Easy Taxi. This post is an evaluation of Easy Taxi as it compares to Uber in Nigeria. To understand this, we will look at various aspects of the business structure of both companies and their services.

Brief History

Easy Taxi is a mobile E-hailing application available in 30 countries. The app allows users to book a taxi via the iPhone, Android, or Windows phone.   Easy Taxi was founded in 2011 in Brazil and has since expanded globally, covering a network of 30 countries and more than 420 cities. As of December 2014, the company reported that it had a total of 17 million users and more than 400,000 taxi drivers on its Taxi network.

Uber is an American International Transportation Network Company headquartered in San Francisco, California. With the Uber mobile app, consumers’ Android and iPhones can submit a trip request which Uber forwards to Uber drivers who use their own cars. As of May 28, 2015, the service was available in 58 countries and 300 cities worldwide. Since Uber’s launch in 2010, several other companies have copied its business model, a trend that has come to be referred to as “Uberification”.

Mode of Operation

As we know, Uber has refused to take the title of a transportation company; instead it prefers to be called a tech company that simply mediates the driver-rider relation to ensure effective mobility. In Nigeria and as it is in all other Uber countries, Uber registers independent contractors/car owners (as drivers) and regular passengers on their app. The app allows users to make on-demand ride requests. These requests are sent to available drivers. Uber would then collect all fares, takes a 20% commission and pays the rest to the driver. This has worked perfectly fine in many countries across the world, creating job opportunities and reducing the hassle of getting regular cabs.

Easy Taxi is an online E-hailing company. Like Uber, they also have an app that allows you to order rides, but in this case only taxis. It saves the hassle of trying to hail a cab. Looking at the mode of operation of this business side by side with that of Uber, one would see that while Uber provides unemployed people the chance to earn a good deal and, also solves a big transportation problem, Easy Taxi seems to be solving only one. One of the edges that you might say Uber has over Easy Taxi.

Pricing

In most of the countries where Uber operates, it is usually cheaper to get an Uber ride than other services. With a price slash sometime in May 2015, Uber dropped its price below all other available services. The problem with Easy Taxi’s pricing is majorly that they deal with taxi owners, who in Nigeria, are used to the very high charges. Therefore, no matter how much they try to regulate, they cannot go as low as Uber, who mostly has employed people who just need extra cash as their drivers. With a base fare of about N1000, Uber has made going around in Lagos cost around N90/km. The fact that Uber is able to offer an unbranded and classy vehicle at a more affordable price is simply amazing.

Services

In Lagos there are basically two Uber services available. They are UberX and UberBLACK. The UberX service is a low-cost service that Uber offers riders: with this service you can get around in a comfortable vehicle and still get to pay an affordable fare. When ordering an UberX, riders can expect cars like a Toyota (Corolla, Camry), Nissan (Almera, Altima), Honda (Accord) or Kia (Cerato).

UberBLACK is a bit higher on the grid because as we know, it involves the use of pricey luxury vehicles and top notch chauffeuring services to go with it. When ordering a BLACK vehicle, expect cars like an Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Toyota Prado and so on.

In the case of Easy Taxi, you can only expect to get a Taxi that will take you wherever you want to go. The diversity that Uber brings to the table in the only city where they operate currently is a threat to Easy Taxi’s modus operandi generally.

Expansion

With the growing popularity of Uber in Nigeria, the company is looking to expand its reach to other cities in Nigeria. The taxi hailing company currently has its name pinned on two cities (Lagos and Abuja). However, there are speculation that they are exiting the Nigeria market already (see the ‘state of things’ section below).

State of Things

While Uber seems to be planning to extend to more cities in Nigeria, Easy Taxi seems to have been structuring a silent exit as hints have been dropping here and there. Some users have complained that they now have difficulty using the app. As reported on Dantewest, the widespread rumor is that the former MD/Founder of Easy Taxi Nigeria, Bankole Cardoso has been spotted in Uber countless times. Same source reported that key staff of Easy Taxi Nigeria have also left the company for various reasons and that report reaching Nigerians on LinkedIn is that the Social Media Manager recently announced his resignation of his appointment with the company. These sudden moves are questions begging for answers and have kept Easy Taxi fans and customers wondering if all is well in the company. The only statement the said source was able to get from this social media manager was: “I needed to move to a better environment, and I’m still a fan of the company”. There are already pointers in Abuja as a disappointed writer reported incidents of app malfunction and the ‘request’ button refusing to click. These are all indications that Easy Taxi might be bowing out in the face of strong competition – leaving Uber to claim the position of kingpin in the Nigerian market. The incident won’t be very shocking when it becomes official as we already saw what happened in Ghana and Singapore. Yet it is not my place to make the official pronouncement and as such, this is not a pronouncement of any sort on behalf of Easy Taxi.

Accessibility

Let me be the judge of this. Looking at the Uber app and official website, I personally believe that it beats all that I have seen of Easy Taxi. The Uber app generally has better features and a better interface: allowing you to split fares, share your trip progress and many more. This is surely one of the major reasons why the Nigerian market, like every other Uber market, has opened up pretty easily to the innovation that Uber brings.

These are very necessary details that I have found when comparing the Uber and Easy Taxi business structure in the Nigerian market.

How to Become an Uber Black Driver

If you are thinking of becoming an Uber Black driver, this post is for you, if you would like to become an UberX driver go here. Uber BLACK is an Uber service  driven by professional chauffeurs in luxury cars. The fare that you receive from passengers is generally about twice the fare that an UberX driver would receive: Uber black drivers also generally make a lot more than their UberX counterparts.

To become an uber black driver, there are a number of requirements that need to be fulfilled and steps that need to be taken. We will discuss them below.

Requirements for the driver:

Ready Your Documents

You need to have the following documents ready:

  1. Your Commercial Driver’s license
  2. Your airport permits (livery licenses) – not required in some cities. If needed you will need one in each city where you want to make drop offs.
  3. Proof of insurance for your business
  4. W-9 documents (in the US) other business registration documents containing tax number (for cities outside the US)
  5. Commercial Vehicle insurance (if you already have an approved Uber black car)
  6. Vehicle Registration documents  (if you already have an approved Uber black car)
  7. City Sticker (for livery cars, if required in your city)

The investment that you will need to make in order to obtain commercial licensing as well as insurance is typically high, which is why I would suggest the Uber BLACK service only for those that wish to become a driver full time and for a long period of time. If you just want to supplement your income, then you might just want to sign up for UberX (If you would like to become an UberX driver go here).

If you are completely new to driving, I would recommend starting out with UberX and then moving on to Uber BLACK when you get the hang of things. This will also help you decide whether you are sure that you want to commit to this job before you invest a lot of money into setting it up.

As far as signing up is concerned, the process is not in any way different from the method that you use to become an UberX driver. You simply create an account on the Uber website (go here, we redirect you to a custom link with our referral code, please use it) and provide all of the information and documents that you are told to provide (as listed previously). Usually, new applicants are required to send the side, front and back pictures of the vehicle that they intend to use. You may later be formally interviewed. A background check will be performed to ensure that your criminal and driving records are clean, and this takes about 2 weeks (in the US) and in some places up to 8 weeks (in South Africa).

Car Requirements

Uber black cars need to have an all black exterior with black, grey or beige leather interior.Whatever type of car you pick, it generally needs to be a model from the year 2012 or newer (3 years old or newer). The type of qualifying SUVs for uber black include the Cadillac Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon XL, Infiniti QX56, Lexus LX, Lincoln Navigator L and Mercedes-Benz GL-class.The qualifying sedans for Uber black include the Audi A6 and A7, the BMW 5 series, Cadillac XTS, Infiniti Q70, Jaguar XF, Lexus GS and Mercedes-Benz E-class. You can check the list here for an analysis of Uber Black cars and what we recommend.

Other Things You Should Know

If you wish to be a long term Uber BLACK driver, another thing that you need to know about is vehicle transitioning. Eventually, your vehicle will quickly become too old for Uber BLACK (over 3 years in most cities). After the vehicle becomes too old for Uber Black, it no longer qualifies as an Uber BLACK car, and it is re-classified as a lower-cost service. In this situation, the two options you have is to either replace your car with a newer one in order to keep your status as an Uber BLACK driver, or you can choose to go for a lower earning service with the same vehicle. If you choose to replace your car, you will need to do this before the date provided by Uber. If you take too long, you will no longer be considered an Uber BLACK driver.

  • If you do not wish to purchase a car outright, there is always the option to go for a leasing service like the one Uber itself provides, or one by a  different company such as Breeze (see our post on leasing and renting for Uber).
  • Renting is another option, although you would need to drive through the Uber account of the owner of the car in this case.  (see our post on leasing and renting for Uber).
  • Uber BLACK driver are generally recommended to be formally dressed, since it is the higher end service of Uber.

Uber Partners and Drivers: An Introduction to Different Uber Services

Are you a potential Uber Partner or Driver, but can’t decide what Uber Service you want to sign up for?

We came up with this post, because we get questions from potential Uber Partners and Drivers via email relating to the different Uber Services and what they are. Since there are multiple Uber services available, it can be tricky to pick the right one for you. Read on to solve exactly this problem!

UberX

UberX is the least expensive of all of the Uber services available, making this a great choice for passengers that are trying to save money: This means two things for a potential Uber Driver or Entrepreneur:

  1. You will get lower fare rates compared to some of the other services like UberXL, Uber Black and UberSUV
  2. You will get more rider pickups since this is the most popular service for Uber

For those new to Uber, UberX is known as the entry level ‘ride sharing’ service for Uber. Riders are matched with independent drivers that drive their own vehicle. Keep in mind to be an UberX driver, you do not need to be a professionally licensed driver, and do not need to have a commercial license. (Note- UberX Livery is different from UberX: Uber X Livery is essentially UberX, but with the caveat that you need to be a professionally licensed commercial driver)

UberX drivers typically have cars like the Toyota Camry, Ford Escape, Ford Escort, etc. The main requirements on how to become an UberX driver are listed in this blog post here. As for the requirements for the UberX car, (in most cities) it must be a model from the year 2006 or newer, and it must have passed an independent inspection (see our blog post here for more information that will help in selecting the perfect UberX car: Uber Car Requirements: 580 UberX cars analyzed). Uber Black

Uber black is often described as being a more luxurious version of UberX. Just like UberX, this Uber service takes a passenger from one place to the other.  Uber Black is perhaps the most expensive service that Uber has in most cities; it is the luxury version of UberX. This means two things for a potential Uber Driver or Entrepreneur:

  1. You will get higher fare rates compared to some of the other services like UberX, and Uber XL
  2. You will get less rider pickups compared to UberX (since there is less demand for this, compared to UberX)
  3. You will also get longer fares (because for a lot of cities, Uber Black unlike UberX is allowed to pickup or drop off at the airport)

This particular Uber service is generally dominated by sleek, high-end sedans. In the Uber Black Car, there can be up to four passengers at a time, just like with UberX.

One of the major differences between the Uber Black and UberX is the general requirement (for most cities) that drivers on the Uber Black platform have commercial or livery licenses.

Uber Black cars are, of course, black. They absolutely need to be new models (2012 or newer) and they need to have a black exterior. For the interior, a black, grey or beige leather interior should do. Think of cars like a Mercedes, or a Cadillac.

For help selecting an Uber Black Car for your Uber Business, see our blog post here: Uber Car Requirements: 420 Uber Black cars analyzed).

Uber XL

Uber XL is yet another variety of Uber that you can sign up for. This particular Uber service is pretty similar to the UberX, except for the fact that the cars are usually larger and can seat up to six people rather than the standard four.

With UberXL, the vehicles approved for these services are generally a minivan or crossover in most cases. You should keep in mind that the fare you receive for this service will be higher than the regular UberX. This is a good option for passengers going somewhere with a few friends or family members.

All the requirements for the drivers are the same as they are for the UberX, except the larger vehicle ofcourse!

For help selecting an Uber XL Car for your Uber Business, see our blog post here: Uber Car Requirements: 115 Uber XL cars analyzed).

UberPlus

UberPlus is an Uber service that falls between Uber Black and Uber X. The quality of the car is usually higher than that of UberX, so you can expect to have a pretty good luxury car—however; it isn’t quite on the same level as the Uber Black.

Up to four people can be seated in these cars, and the fare you can expect to receive is usually less than that of Uber Black, but higher than that of Uber X.

That means that this is a good option for Uber Partners and drivers that have or want to acquire a slightly nicer car, but don’t want to have to pay Uber Black money for a car.

UberPool

UberPool is a particularly interesting Uber service because it allows Uber passengers carpool with a stranger that is headed in a similar direction. From a driver or entrepreneur’s perspective, you are using the same car you would use for UberX.

Some passengers might not love the idea of traveling with a stranger, but the advantage is that it allows them to save some money, seeing as how they split the fare with the other passenger.

Those are all of the major types of Uber services that Uber Partners and drivers need to know about. Now, you can make your choice based on your requirements regarding the type of car, the potential revenue and driver requirements. Choose wisely, and happy Uber-ing!
