How Uber For Business Works

Uber for Business is a one stop travel solution for companies. In Uber’s words,” It’s a digital headquarters for all your company’s ground transportation”.  Arranging travel for your business and other stakeholders can be such a hassle. With Uber Business, you will be letting the transport giant worry about getting you and your people places while you focus on making profits.

Uber has always being concerned with creating a world where transportation and commute is as seamless as running water. Uber has a knack for introducing various services that add color to consumer experience.  The rideshare giant provides a plethora of services to meet the needs of commuters. All services launched by Uber aim at making commuting from one place to the other easier.

The various Uber services include UberX, which is the mid-tier cost Uber service; UberBLACK – the most expensive and classiest service with black high-end vehicles; UberXL – the 6 passenger version of UberX; UberSELECT – the service that sits between the UberX and the UberBLACK services; then the UberSUV – which is the 6 passenger version of UberBLACK. Some cities offer a variation of these services to suit their markets.

To ensure organizations enjoy the same services available to other Uber users, Uber for business is also offering all Uber products on the platform including its luxurious services like the  UberBLACK and the UberSUV products.

How Uber for Business Works

It’s quite easy. Just the way Uber has a mobile application where riders can request rides and see all their activities, Uber for business allows users access to a centralized dashboard where they can manage their organization’s transportation needs.

Via the dashboard, users can

  • View all trip activity for passengers the organization has catered for their transportation via the Uber for business platform
  • View and manage expensing, billing and other financial reports
  • Set up ride schedules for employees
  • Review trips
  • Manage all your organization’s local travel from one place
  • Send out multiple rides at once and monitor them from one dashboard.

Pricing

Just like how Uber charges Uber drivers commission on every ride, Uber will charge organizations on the Uber for business platform 10% on each ride placed on the platform.

Parking in TARTA Park-N-Ride lots is totally free and you only pay for the ride.

Leave your cars behind and commute freely without the stress of driving.

Over the years, rideshare has taken on various forms but still with the same aim; to simplify transportation while reducing greenhouse emissions and traffic congestion in our cities. To ensure seamless transportation, many cities enforce HOV (High Occupancy Vehicles) rules where roads have dedicated lanes for these vehicles. In a bid to provide smart carpooling solutions, Carma Carpool launched its services in 2007.

Carpooling with Zimride

Over the years, rideshare has taken on various forms but still with the same aim; to simplify transportation while reducing green house emissions and traffic congestion in our cities. To ensure seamless transportation, bikes, trucks, and even rickshaws are being used to simplify transportation. In densely populated countries like India and China, bikes and rickshaws are being used to decongest roads and reduce carbon footprints.

With Zimride, the structure is different and innovative. Unlike most rideshare companies that connect total strangers, Zimride offers rideshare through social networking. We will explore this concept in detail below.

More about Zimride

Established in 2007, the company was founded by Logan Green and John Zimmer. The service connects users via the social networking platform, Facebook. Currently Zimride boasts over 350,000 users with presence in 125 university campuses in the United States. This innovative platform was created to remove the anxiety that users might feel at the possibility of sharing a ride with a total stranger. Through partnerships with Facebook, users will sign into the Zimride website and are matched with other users that have the same preferences.

Zimride sold to Enterprise Holdings in 2013.

How to use Zimride

The service connects users that work in the same organization, have mutual friends or go to the same school. Users who post available seats will also be told to asked to post their personal details and their preferences. This way, the site will match users who have the same preferences.

For Riders

Creating a profile is free. To use the platform, follow the instructions below:

  • Sign into Zimride through your Facebook account
  • Create a profile
  • Find the ride you want and book it
  • Follow the steps to make payment and then wait for your ride.

For Drivers

  • Ride payments are transferred to drivers via PayPal
  • You will receive payouts after 1 day. This is to protect riders from flaky drivers

Fares

The service will suggest fares but the ultimate decision lies with the driver who decides what to charge passengers. Passengers can pay for fares using their credit cards or with PayPal.

Conclusion

Establishing trust between users is very important. It may not entirely eliminate safety issues but incidences that may occur will not be as frequent as driving with total strangers. Many rideshare companies have experienced lawsuits stemming from driver misconduct cases that range from rape to assault of passengers. By incorporating social networking, Zimride is fostering the spirit of community among users.

What to know about Taipei’s YouBike

Ridesharing is fast become a preferred means of transportation for many. It is cheaper, more convenient and an innovative way of commuting without owning the vehicle. The rideshare industry is growing with many new entrants daily. Pioneer rideshare companies like Uber and Lyft remain at the forefront and start-up companies in the industry are modelling their businesses after them.

Now, various vehicles are being introduced into rideshare. People do not only have to travel with cars; other vehicles like bikes, scooters, trucks and even tuk-tuks are being introduced into rideshare. In a bid to promote cleaner environments and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transportation systems, cities are partnering with rideshare start-ups to introduce smarter transport solutions. In some cases, cities are going it on their own and introducing public ridesharing schemes to reduce the number of vehicles on the road.

In this post, we will shed some light on Taipei’s public bikeshare system called YouBike (Ubike).

More About YouBike

YouBike is a Taipei based public bicycle sharing service. The service is offered by the city’s Department of Transportation. Taipei is collaborating with local bicycle manufacturer, Giant Bicycles to provide this service in over 6 cities in Taiwan. The service was launched in 2009 and now boasts over 22 million rentals annually with over 200 rental stations.

Fare

To rent a bike, it costs NT$5 for the first 30 minutes then NT$10 for every 30 minutes within the first 4 hours, NT$20 for every 30 minutes between 4-8 hours and NT$40 for every 30 minutes after 8 hours.

To rent a YouBike

To download the app, visit Play store or the App store. You can rent either as a Member or as a single user. As a member, you will require an Easycard electronic card and a Taipei mobile phone number to register. As a single renter, you will require your credit card and will only be able to rent from a kiosk at a bike station. Please note that YouBike will pre-authorise NT$2,000 on your card which will be cancelled when you return the bike with no incidents.

To Use

Inspect the bike before renting it. Once you are satisfied with the state of the bike, place your card on the sensing zone of the bike. Once the green light flashes, makes a beep sound and says “Take”, retrieve the bike from the rack immediately and start riding.

To Return

Find an unoccupied parking slot, insert bike lock plate into the dock to lock. Wait for the indicator lights to ask you to place your card on the sensor, then place your Easycard to make payments. Once the fees are taken, the bike has been returned.

If you happen to visit Taiwan, be sure to try out a YouBike.

All About Toyota’s $500M Investment in Uber

In May, 2016, auto giant Toyota announced that it would be entering a partnership with Uber. The partnership saw Uber and Toyota working on creating new leasing options that would allow Uber drivers lease vehicles with Toyota Financial Services providing financing to these drivers. This leasing program is flexible and drivers can cover their payments through their Uber earnings. Uber and Toyota’s partnership is obviously profitable to both parties as Toyota is investing $500 million in Uber to deliver self-driving cars.

Uber has been investing heavily in driverless car projects and mapping technology. Toyota on the other hand has been opening research centers in several places in the U.S and also devised a plan to spend about $1 billion over a 5-year period on research and development of artificial intelligence, robotics and developing self-driving cars.

More about Toyota’s $500M investment in Uber

This investment will help accelerate Uber’s development of self-driving vehicles as the rideshare giant plans to launch a self-driven vehicle pilot by 2021. For Toyota, an alliance like this is very necessary given that Uber and other rideshare companies are big threats to automakers. The company also faces huge obstacles in the future if self-driving vehicles become a transportation norm.

We have learnt that Uber will be tasked with fitting Toyota’s Sienna Minivans with self-driving technology. This investment comes at a great time for Uber whose semi-autonomous vehicle project came to a halt in Arizona after one of its cars killed a woman.

Conclusion

Toyota’s $500M investment in Uber can help cushion expenses that are bound to be incurred while developing and deploying self-driving vehicles. Obviously, both companies have a common interest in self-driving cars and it is only necessary that both sides take advantage of this partnership to reach their shared goal.

All About Uber and Venmo Partnership

Uber is a convenient way to ride. The app-based service is a pioneer in rideshare and has been embraced as a preferred way to ride globally. Riders place their ride request via the app and then the rider is matched to a driver. Uber passengers get a fare estimate before even starting a ride. This helps them decide if to go on with the ride or cancel the ride request. This fare estimate is shown to the rider before completing the ride request process on the Uber app. Passengers pay for the rides via the credit or debit cards tied to their Uber accounts.

Some markets like Nigeria and India allow passengers pay for rides using cash. In addition to these payment options, riders can pay for rides using their PayPal accounts and now, payment can be effected using Venmo. Uber and Venmo entered a partnership to facilitate payment for Uber rides with Venmo.

Venmo

Venmo is a free digital wallet that lets you transfer money to others via a mobile app. This mobile payment service is owned by PayPal and both parties of the payment transaction have to be resident in the U.S.

Uber and Venmo Partnership

In July 2018, Uber announced it will be partnering with Venmo to allow users add Venmo as a payment method for Uber rides and UberEATS. In a press release, Uber stated that in 2017 “more than six million payments on Venmo mentioned “Uber” in their description”. It is only strategic that Uber will pursue a beneficial partnership with Venmo to simplify payment via the mobile money service. To facilitate payments via Venmo, Uber provided an option where Venmo can be added as a payment method on the Uber app.

Users can pay solo or split costs with other parties. However, you will be prompted to visit the Venmo app to split the cost effectively. You will also find custom Uber and UberEATS emojis in the Venmo app to add some fun in the description field.

Conclusion

Having multiple payment methods for Uber payments is a good way to make the service more flexible and convenient for users. This Uber and Venmo partnership is a win-win for all parties involved. Uber stands to earn more if riders have multiple ways of paying for the service; Venmo profits from transaction fees and users have flexible means of effecting payment after using Uber’s services.
