Uber, valued at over $60B has proven itself to be a profitable business for registered Uber drivers. However, not every intending driver can afford the vehicles required for some Uber services. There exist other options for acquiring vehicles to help drivers run their Uber businesses that would not significantly affect their take home pay at the end of the day. In South Africa, there are location specific options for drivers who want to lease or rent a car for their Uber business. These car leasing options will help drivers make a reasonable amount of money despite the fact that they are not using their private cars. This post will be focused on providing Uber drivers with options for car leasing in Johannesburg.
Leasing with WesBank
For car leasing in Johannesburg, WesBank seems like a great option. With WesBank, you have a low-fixed cost and a variable rate per km (P.O.A). The initiation fee is about R3,420 and the deal lasts for 36 months. Drivers traveling 5,000km per month can expect to pay from R1, 700 per week for a brand new vehicle of their choice. Only drivers who will be using this vehicle as their ONLY VEHICLE will be able to qualify. You will not be allowed to use a WesBank vehicle if you already have an active vehicle with the exception that the leased vehicle acts as a replacement for the active one.
What’s more, drivers with bad or no credit history can also apply (although subject to review). You also have insurance and maintenance cost covered for you. With few easy steps, you can complete the application process. Begin by filling the form on this page, then you wait for WesBank to review and provide feedback on the outcome of your application – this takes about 14 days. If successful, you will then proceed to choose your preferred vehicle type, vehicle colour, sign your lease agreement and pay the initiation fee. Once completed, you go on to upload all your documents to the Uber application site and you are set.

The last time we did an estimate of Uber driver earnings, we reported driver earnings estimate in Johannesburg as R540, 172. This means that the most expensive of the rental services would take out R72, 200 per year, which is less than 20% of driver’s yearly income.
