More About The Uber Rider Preferred Program

Uber drivers and riders have seen the company through various changes including a management transition and exits from major regions and markets. In a bid to improve its services and retain drivers, Uber launched the 180 days of change in June 2017 to improve driver/partner experience. The San Francisco Ride-hailing Company, whose app-based service is gaining grounds around the world, is determined to remain an industry leader.

To improve service convenience, Uber added more features to its app to benefit its drivers. These features include a long trip notification feature, friendlier acceptance rate policy, 6 driver destination filters per and many more. Now, Uber is introducing a rider preferred program to appreciate exceptional drivers.

More About the Uber Rider Preferred program

According to Uber, “Rider Preferred is a designation for drivers designed to recognize those who’ve received extraordinary rider feedback on the highest percentage of their trips.” Simply, the Rider Preferred will serve to reward drivers who are frequently recognized and complimented by riders for delivering exceptional service.

How it works

These Uber drivers make up about 2% of Uber drivers and they will be selected to become Rider Preferred twice a year. These elite group of drivers will be sent a recognition package and an “exclusive Rider Preferred designation in the app to let riders know whenever they’re matched with one of these amazing drivers.” Also, drivers will be given an extra $1 to every tip recognized drivers receive in the following month.

The recognition package includes:

  • A “Rider Preferred” sticker for your vehicle
  • A custom black Uber travel mug
  • A video greeting card
  • A thank you note from Uber’s VP and Head of New Modalities, Rachel Holt

What is expected of Uber drivers

Being an exemplary Uber driver is not a tall order. There are certain levels of professionalism you must strive to attain to help improve passenger experience and get those desired tips. When a customer is satisfied with your service, they are generally generous and also give you the much desired 5-star ratings. What do you have to lose? Get to driving and on your way to earning a Rider Preferred badge.

Uber Auto Lease For European Uber Drivers

As a pioneer in ridesharing, Uber has enjoyed enormous success in almost every market it has launched in. The Uber business model has been copied by many other rideshare companies. The model seems to work as evidenced by the company’s growth over the years. Uber has proven to be a flexible source of income for drivers and Uber fleet owners. If you have a car registered on the Uber platform as a driver, you get to drive on your own schedule and be your own boss. It is safe to say that Uber has empowered people who are interested in partnering with the rideshare giant in various markets.

What if you can’t afford a car to drive on the Uber platform?

Drivers who don’t have access to their own cars are linked to Uber partners who have cars registered on the platform but do not want to drive. Also, leasing programs are created to help drivers who don’t have their own vehicles have access to cars and potentially own these cars. These leasing programs are usually as a result of Uber’s strategic partnership with automakers and leasing companies. In May of 2016, auto giant Toyota announced that it would be entering a partnership with Uber. Uber and Toyota would work on creating new leasing options that would allow Uber drivers lease vehicles with Toyota Financial Services providing financing to these drivers.

Now, Uber has entered a partnership with Leaseplan, a leading multinational fleet management and driver mobility company, to create a convenient vehicle leasing solution to Uber drivers and partners across Europe. This service will be called Uber Auto Lease.

More about Uber Auto Lease

The Uber Auto Lease plan currently provides mobility solutions to interested Uber drivers in Portugal, France and the Netherlands. However, Uber and Leaseplan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that Leaseplan will provide vehicle leasing solutions to over 22 countries in Europe. The partnership will see Leaseplan providing a package of services that includes repairs, maintenance and insurance to interested Uber drivers.

What Uber auto lease means for Uber drivers

For new drivers:

Now, you don’t have to worry about getting a car before signing up to become an Uber driver. To become an Uber driver, you can sign up through the Uber website – using our referral link: uberkit.net/signup.  (You get a signup bonus, which has our signup referral code already pre-populated). Note – the links redirect to the correct Uber URL.

Once you have been approved to drive, you can then go on to lease your car at the Uber office. You will be required to present the following upon signing the lease agreement:

  • Driving license (minimum three years)
  • Chamber of Commerce number
  • VAT number
  • IBAN bank details
  • A driver card

For existing Uber drivers:

You do not have to go through Uber to lease a car here. Visit the Leaseplan website, choose a car from the online showroom and follow the instructions stated there.

How It works

Uber drivers will be required to pay a fixed lease amount per week. Please note that you will only pay according to the number of kilometers you drove during the week. For example, for your first 6 months of leasing, you will be expected to pay about €157.50 weekly if you drive between 0 – 525km. The figure reduces as you spend more time driving for Uber. After spending 1 year, you will be awarded a lower rate per week and a nice bonus.

What we Think

Before entering into any lease agreement, it is important to do your research and ensure that there are no hidden charges. Auto leases are a great way to start your Uber business if you can’t afford a car immediately. With weekly payments, you can get to own the vehicle in no time.

Uber in London Issued Probationary License

Uber has been given a probationary license to legally resume operations in London. The rideshare giant was banned after TFL (Transport for London), London’s transportation authority cited some issues bordering on negligence and Uber’s disregard for the safety of its users. Uber appealed this decision in 2017 but continued to operate although driver’s who were caught were fined.

This isn’t the first time Uber is facing fire for negligence or lack of proper screening of Uber drivers. Uber pulled out of Austin because the city mandated the fingerprinting of ridesharing drivers.

In London, TfL cited a few pertinent issues as reasons for issuing the ban. Uber’s lenient background checks for drivers and the company’s failure to report crimes committed by Uber drivers were at the forefront of the reasons for the ban. The regulation agency also accused Uber of neglecting its corporate responsibilities.

Uber in London issued Probationary License

The frontier rideshare company has now been given a probationary license that will be subject to review every 15 months. To ensure that this license is not revoked, Uber in London will be expected to provide TfL with an independently verified audit of its operations every six months. Also, it must follow stipulated procedures for reporting driver criminal activities, passenger complaints, and data privacy. Uber will also be expected to update regulators when there are any changes to company policy and government.

During a two-day hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, Uber admitted to its mistakes and stated that TfL’s ban prompted it to make changes to its services. In April, 2018, Uber rolled out the Uber 911 assistance panic button. Now, riders can use the service knowing that it’s never been easier to reach help when needed. Uber has also introduced a 24hrs telephone support line.

What Next

It behooves Uber in London to stick to the rules surrounding its probationary license. London is a big market for the rideshare company and TfL is apparently strict about protecting the safety of London residents. If this license is revoked, it might mean Uber leaving the city for good. London is one of Uber’s largest markets in Europe with over 3.5 million people who use the service. It will be a huge loss to the company if it has to give up its operations in London.

Uber 911 Button: All About The Safety Feature

Uber is a comfortable way to ride for cheap. Request a ride using the Uber app downloaded on your phone, select a preferred service (UberX, UberSELECT, UberBLACK and others) and then wait for your driver to arrive. The Uber service is convenient and you can relax while the driver worries about getting you to your destination in record time.

However, the Uber service is not void of loopholes and passengers have to be on guard to be safe during the trip. This is why Uber is introducing a bunch of safety features into the Uber app. These features will include a panic button called “911 assistance”, safety tips developed in partnership with law enforcement, and community guidelines. These features have been pooled together in one place called a safety center and it will be easily accessible right from the app’s home screen during a trip.

In April, 2018, Uber rolled out the Uber 911 button across some cities in the U.S and now, riders can ride knowing that it’s never been easier to reach help when needed. This post will shed more light on how riders can use this feature.

How to use the Uber 911 button

  • Click on the safety icon that appears on the lower right corner of the app during the trip
  • Click on the 911 Assistance button in the menu
  • Tap the red Call 911 button

Please note that the feature is only enabled during your trip. Uber also stated that it will soon introduce a feature that allows location sharing between riders who clicked on the Uber 911 button and 911 dispatchers to ensure help gets to the rider as soon as possible.

Conclusion

A number of rape and assault cases have been brought against various Uber drivers around the world. An India Uber driver was arrested for raping a female passenger in December, of 2014. In 2017, an Uber passenger in Virginia was abducted and sexually assaulted by an Uber driver after he picked her up. In California, an unconscious teenage girl was raped by an Uber driver a few feet from her home and was discovered by concerned relatives who used the tracking feature to locate the Uber.

As much as Uber tries to screen drivers thoroughly before registering them as drivers, it is conceivable that bad eggs might slip through the cracks. Despite introducing these safety features within the app, it is important that passengers remain vigilant during trips.

UberEverything In Africa

Uber launched operations in Africa beginning with the city of Johannesburg in August 2013. Now it operates in over 10 African cities including Cape Town, Abuja and Kampala. Uber in Abuja, Nigeria happened to be the company’s 400th city signifying Uber’s relentless growth around the world. This has made the company comfortable enough to plan its growth on an even larger scale.

As reported by QZ: “Having nearly perfected the business of moving people around on the continent, Uber is set to diversify the core of its business in sub Saharan Africa with the introduction of UberEverything, a division of the company with ambitious plans to plug its existing drivers network into the on-demand economy and provide services such as product and food delivery and courier services.”

What is UberEverything?

UberEverything can be used to define all Uber’s possible business endeavors in the long term. It seems Uber plans to meet every need possible with UberEverything. Jason Droege, Head of the UberEverything Division, confirmed our assertion when he told the Los Angeles Times: “everything we’re building is on top of a platform that already exists,”

To be more precise, UberEverything will be made up of UberRUSH, Uber’s version of a personal courier service; and UberEATS– a food delivery service. According to Uber’s General Manager for sub-Saharan Africa, Alon Lits, UberEverything will pilot in South Africa by the end of 2016.

UberEveryting and Possiblities

“The first market will probably be South Africa and we are pushing to make that happen before the end of the year,” said Alon Lits, Uber’s General manager for sub-Saharan Africa. With UberRUSH, users should expect to have a personal courier service that lets them get their parcels delivered within minutes. With UberEATS service, having food delivered is about to get even easier. The service will erase the extra stress that going out to get your meal would cost you. You will be able to order your favourite meal and have them delivered just when you want it.

“If things go well in South Africa, there’s no reason why we won’t bring UberEverything to more markets. One of such markets will likely be Lagos,” Lits says. Nigeria, with its teeming population seems like an optimal option. Despite the economic instability in the country, certain cities like Abuja and Lagos continue to thrive against all odds.

We look forward to the launch of these Uber services in other African cities.

Uber in Africa: Company’s Expansion and What this Means

Uber Technologies Inc. is well known for its aggressive mode of taking over territories. The company has operations in over 500 cities across 81 countries of the world. Uber’s die-hard attitude towards expansion and its ability to be at loggerheads with resisting governments could be why it remains an industry leader today. Uber in Africa is proving to be a formidable force.  The company continues to enjoy rapid growth in major Africa cities. Uber launched in Africa in 2012 beginning with Johannesburg. The company has since spread its operations into 14  African cities including Lagos, Dar Es Salaam and Pretoria.

This doesn’t mean the ride share giant has enjoyed smooth sailing while increasing its global foot print in Africa. Local taxi drivers have expressed both verbal and physical displeasure at Uber’s growing popularity in Africa. Uber drivers in Kenya and South Africa have faced abuse in the hands of local taxi drivers. This setbacks have only spurred Uber on as the company continues to seek ways to attract more riders onto its platform.

Besides providing alternative means of transport for Africans and empowering willing drivers, Uber will also introduce some of its other popular services like
UberEATS, UberRUSH and UberPOOL. This was revealed by Alon Lits- General Manager of Uber in Sub-Saharan Africa to YPO about Uber’s expansion plans.

It is equally important to note that unemployment is a big problem in most African countries.  By launching Uber in Africa, the company will provide job opportunities to thousands of people.

Despite some of the opposition Uber has faced in Africa, there aren’t key competitors who operate exactly the same way as Uber does in Africa. Other companies such as Snappcab in South Africa and Taxify which launched in Cape Town and Nigeria are struggling to meet up. Uber continues to enjoy unparalleled success in Africa by revolutionizing the Taxi industry.  While trying to increase rider patronage, Uber in Africa slashed fares in Kenya to make its services more attractive to consumers. This move met with retaliation from Uber drivers who decided to protest what they felt was unfair. The disgruntled drivers went on strike in August of 2016 protesting the 35 percent cut in prices introduced by the ride-hailing service in East Africa’s largest economy. However, Uber has since resumed operations in Kenya and continues to battle it out with home grown competitor- Little launched by Safaricom.

While touting the progress made so far by Uber in Africa, Lits reported that: “In 2014, we had a million trips booked, during the first six months of 2015 two million trips were booked, and we have seen the trend continue.”

African countries are known for their warm reception of foreign investors who try to empower their citizens. The market is welcoming and with the government ready to support foreign investment, it means even easier operations for Uber.

We look forward to other success stories as Uber in Africa continues to make its way around the continent one city at a time.

7 Instances Where the Kommen App Can be A Lifesaver

In certain situations, booking uber rides with our Kommen app can be a lifesaver. Requesting an Uber on-demand is fine, but booking your rides ahead of time is even better. Certainly, there is no harm in trying to maximize your hours and this post will share 7 instances where our Kommen app can do this for you.

Business Meetings

Being tardy for an important meeting is never a good look. You can ensure your prompt arrival by simply booking your ride ahead probably with a 5 or 10 minutes allowance for any unplanned incidents.
If you have to book at the last minute, uncertainties are even more likely to occur and that might affect your travel time.

Dinner/Dates

If you do not want to be late to pick up that important dinner date,  booking your ride ahead of time is one way to go. It frees you to enjoy the other activities involved in getting ready for the date and not having to worry about getting a cab or waiting for your driver.

Long/Very Busy Days

Having a busy day can make you forget you will need to get home at the end of the day. You have the option of pre-booking your ride with the Kommen app before the close of work.  Now, you can focus on the tasks at hand and then slip into a waiting ride at the end of the day with no hassles.

Tight Plan/Schedule

Having the kind of day when you have to be at several places at once? Then pre-booking your ride will not only save you time, it will also save you the stress of waiting in between trips or trying to find a cab.

Airport Rides

The ride to and from the airport just got easier with Kommen. Pre-booking your rides with Kommen helps to ensure that you plan your trip smartly. By doing so, you do not have to worry about keeping your eye on your luggage while trying to request or hail a ride.

Bad Network Coverage

While using the Uber app, it is important you have excellent network coverage. So, in a situation where you have to take an Uber and you do not have access to the internet or not enough to run the app – having a pre-booked Uber ride by using the Kommen app will ensure you do not panic or get stranded.

Low Power

Similar to the one above, you can’t always trust your battery power too. Especially towards the end of the day, there is always a possibility that your battery may have powered out. The way to proactively handle such a situation is by having your rides prebooked.

How?

Kommen is an android app  that lets you schedule your Uber rides ahead of time for up to 30 days. This app was launched about 6 months ago and has since been used by thousands of Uber users who have expressed their satisfaction with what it offers and how it operates. The Kommen app complements the Uber app and they both work side by side to give you the ultimate ride experience. Have yourUber rides booked with Kommen and let it worry about getting you there .
