List of Uber Approved Cars in Melbourne, Australia (212 Vehicles)

Are you at the point where you want to buy a car for Uber, but can’t seem to get the list of approved Uber vehicles? In response to numerous requests for the List of Uber cars (UberX and Uber Black) in Melbourne, Australia, we put together an unofficial master list containing 212 Uber approved vehicles in Melbourne, Australia.

The list below contains the following – Uber Approved Service, Make, and Model of the Vehicle. For some of the data we marked it as N/A – meaning we could not find it, or it does not exist!Assume all cars on this list are at most 10 years old (i.e. 2006)

Note – if a car is approved for Uber Black, it is generally automatically approved to make UberX pickups (if the driver desires). For Uber Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, note the key difference(s) between UberX and Uber Black:

UberX:

  • To be approved for the UberX service your car needs to be approved for UberX, or UberBlack use (see list below)
  • You need to be at least 21 years old
  • You need to have a drivers license
  • You need to have personal insurance on your car

UberBlack:

  • To be approved for UberBlack your car needs to be approved for UberBlack (see list below)
  • Your car needs to be black
  • Your need to be a professional chauffeur
  • You need to have a commercial drivers license
  • You need to have commercial insurance on your car

Use the search (in the blog post & right above the table) to search for a car make or model. DO NOT use the search bar at the top right

  2. I have a Suzuki alto which I took to be approved as a uber car but was told it does not have three seat belts in the rear so is not eligible. I see that it is on the approved list of cars for use. Can you please let me know if my Suzuki is acceptable as I would really like to drive but cannot afford another car.

    1. Who told you it was not eligible? Shoot an email to “[email protected]” for a definitive answer. At the time we compiled this list, it was eligible. Let us know what you are told too.

      1. How is a three star ANCAP rated vehicle like the Proton S16 approved?

Had a ride in one of these the other day and was concerned that my safety was clearly not a concern of Uber or the driver.

Why does Uber not have a minimum Ancap rating for cars used?

        1. Hello Roger,

Uber have a minimum car requirement for each country. per your question i suggest you make a complain to uber customer support or visit your local uber office to make a complain.

          To Report An Issue

Select ‘Help’ from your uber app menu and you can choose any of the options under ‘Report an Issue’, or you can go right to your ‘Last Trip’ to report an issue from your most recent trip.

  13. I’m planning to buy a car and work with Uber, so is it ok if I go for a Hatchback or should I buy a Sedan only?

    Reply
  14. Hey there!
I noticed in a few places in the comments section where people were asking “Can I use [this car]?” and it was explained; “No, that car is a hatch. Uber Australia allows 4-door sedans only.”

In the list of approved vehicles, there are these hatch-only vehicles that have been approved:

    Alfa Giulietta
    Audi A1 (Hatch-only in Aus)
BMW 1 Series (Hatch-only in Aus)
    Citroen C4 (Hatch-only in Aus)
    Fiat Punto (Hatch-only in Aus)
    Honda Jazz
    Hyundai Getz
    Hyundai i20 (Hatch-only in Aus)
Hyundai i30 (Hatch or wagon in Aus)
    Mercedes A-Class
    Mercedes B-Class
    Mitsubishi Colt
    Nissan Micra
    Peugeot 307
    Peugeot 308
    Suzuki Alto
    Suzuki Swift
    Volkswagen Golf
    Volvo V40

And, there are also these sedans that I’ve found to be missing from the list:

    Volvo S60
    Renault Latitude
    Renault Fluence
    Mercedes C-Class
    Opel Insignia

So, where does Uber Australia actually stand on hatches? What can be used and what cannot? If hatches *are* allowed in the form of those listed above, will we soon be seeing the entire Renault range (Clio, Megane, etc.) approved as well? The Renault Clio R.S. 200 Cup is beautiful! 😀

There’s also some grammatical issues with some model names:
Ford “6GE Turbo” is actually a “Falcon G6E Turbo”
Holden “Celais” is actually a “Calais”
Subaru “Imprezz” is actually an “Impreza”
Suzuki “Aerio” is actually a “Liana” in Australia
